And speaking of light

Even this season, sad as it is, has its compensations. This was fairly early in the morning recently, with the rising sun catching a nearby maple (I think) in incandescence. Note also the mockingbird (again, I think) on the wire.

Sunshine nearly always makes me high

Actually, that's not really true, although at one point in my life I was told I bore a resemblance to John Denver, in a sort of "if you're slightly drunk in a dimly lit room" kind of way.

But what it does do is spin the solar electric meter, and it's been pretty good this year. We hit 3,000 kwh by the first week of November, which is a first. This year's production through October is 6% higher than the average for the previous three years, which confirms my impression that this has been a pretty sunny year.

Which impression is also confirmed by the fact that rainfall to date is about 8% below normal, proving once again that there is no free lunch. Lots of sun = fewer clouds = less rain. Duh, perhaps, but sometimes even the obvious truths are worth restating.
