Falling leaves etc etc

You’d think, as old as I am – and there’s younger dirt – that I’d be used to the end of summer by now. Alas, you’d be wrong. I have perhaps become less despondent and more elegiac about the transition, more able to think of it as the beginning of autumn, a new season with its own beauties and its own measure, but I’m still not pleased with this state of affairs.

The immediate thought-triggering event was the removal of one of the window air conditioners back up to the attic. But of course there are the other more external-world-based signs, like the equinox that is hard upon us, which will in fact occur on granddaughter Sofia’s first birthday. Now if that isn’t one of your diamond-in-the-mud, renewal-in-the-midst-of-decay observations, I’d like to see one.
