Arboricide
Well, of course the picture exaggerates a little, but it does seem that the pine we had cut down had been there forever. It picked a bad place to be a pine tree - right up against the house and on the south side, to boot, so it shaded in the winter.
But we didn't help by spacing out until it got too large to be transplanted or trimmed. Hard to think you can space out for so long that a slow growing thing like a tree will sneak by you, but there you have it.
