Nixon Rocks!

I was in Southern Taiwan recently, hot on the trail of an earthquake (another story) and I was pleased that I was able to get to a locally famous sight, Chuanfanshi, or Sail Rock. A large coral limestone rock just off the shore in Hengchun Township, it is called that for its resemblance from a distance - or so I'm told - to a ship under sail.

It is also known to gringos (as one of my Taiwanese connections referred to me and Westerners in general) as Nixon Rock, for its resemblance to the profile of the 37th president.

OK, so it's not a "slam on the brakes OMG that rock looks just like Nixon" resemblance, but if you look you can see it.

It was not really on my list of things to see in order to die happy, but having found out about it, I'm glad I took a very modest amount of trouble to see it. Now on to the World's Largest Ball of Twine.
