Satellite Destruction/Crash of Alien Craft Fantasy

I finally had a great Perseid meteor shower viewing this year. Up in Maine, far from city lights and without any seaside haze for a change. I actually saw half a dozen over two nights, coming from more or less where they were supposed to. And then I saw IT.

Streaking from South to North, contrary to the normal flow, a bright yellow orange track that I saw splitting into fragments. Perhaps an old Soviet spy satellite tumbling from the polar orbit they were wont to use, spewing plutonium through the upper atmosphere. I've left this at the fantasy level, not plumbing any of the satellite fan sites. It probably was just a meteorite.

Or, an alien spacecraft crashing in an attempt to return Elvis' love child by a princess of Alpha Centuari. Yeah. Let's go with that one.
